Culturefest is a world music and arts festival which celebrates the culture of Appalachia alongside that of the nations of the world. The goal of the festival is to promote respect and understanding, with music and art being the bridge.
In its fifth year, the festival presents numerous top-quality music acts and dance performances from around the world, ethnic food, artisan vendors, a children’s village, drum circles, demonstrations and workshops. This year’s Culturefest will be held September 19-21 at the beautiful Appalachian South Folklife Center in Pipestem, West Virginia, offering 3 full days of fine West Virginia camping, entertainment and cultural enrichment. Need Info? Call 304-320-8833 DIRECTIONS: FROM THE NORTH: Take I-64 south past Tamarack, continue south on I-77. Take Exit 14 to Route 20 North towards Athens and Pipestem. Continue straight on Route 20 at the stoplight in Athens and travel toward Pipestem State Park. Continue 1/4 of a mile and take Indian Ridge Road on the right. Go 1/2 mile and take sharp left onto Rocky Mount Road. Look for Folklife Center and festival sign 3/4 of a mile on the right. Turn in and welcome! FROM THE EAST: From I-64 take the Sandstone/Hinton exit. Take Route 20 South 10 miles to Hinton. Continue on Route 20 through town and towards Pipestem State Park. At 1/4 mile before the park entrance make a left onto Indian Ridge Road. Go 1/2 mile and take sharp left onto Rocky Mount Road. Look for Folklife Center and festival sign 3/4 of a mile on the right. This year's Culturefest will feature awesome workshops in songwriting, belly dance, drumming, poetry and more. Stay tuned for a full schedule.

The children's area of Culturefest is called LaLa Land. It features activities like origami, rock painting, music, and a costume parade. Music teacher extraordinaire Melissa McKinney runs this magical playground.

Primitive on-site camping is FREE with a full weekend pass.
The site can only accommodate small RVS and there is NO HOOKUP. Bigger RVs will not make it into the venue entrance. However, full RV camping is available at Pipestem State Park, about a mile & 1/2 from the venue, an excellent bike trip. For large RV camping, visit pipestemresort.com. OTHER ACCOMODATIONS that are available in the area are several major hotel chains and a slew of fine bed & breakfasts. In addition, Pipestem State Park, right next to the festival site, has beautiful lodges and cottages.
